Glossary

Term — The outer container for a stretch of school: a semester, quarter, or session. Everything else in StudiFoca — Courses, Assignments, Assessments — lives inside one. See Terms.

Course — One class within a Term: its instructor, meeting schedule, grading system, current grade, and everything due in it. See Courses.

Assignment — Day-to-day coursework — homework, readings, discussions, papers, lab reports — as distinct from a formal Assessment. See Assignments.

Assessment — A formal, higher-stakes evaluation: an exam, quiz, midterm, final, or similar. See Assessments.

Focus Block — StudiFoca’s unit of work: 25 minutes. Used to size steps and to calculate the workload heat map. Not a timer — StudiFoca doesn’t run a countdown while you work. See Blocks and steps.

Step — One piece of a broken-down assignment, sized in blocks and checked off individually as you complete it. See Breaking down an assignment.

Suggested steps — The set of steps StudiFoca proposes when you tap Start Working on an assignment, generated from that assignment’s type and its Step Template. Fully editable before or after they’re created.

Breakdown — The full set of steps for one assignment, taken together. “Removing a breakdown” clears the steps back to none; a breakdown can be regenerated at any time.

Step Template — The default list of suggested steps for a given assignment type (Paper, Lab Report, Discussion, and so on), editable in Settings → Assignment Breakdown. Changing a template only affects breakdowns generated afterward. See Settings.

Starting date — The date you give the scheduler when you schedule an assignment’s steps; the scheduler distributes the remaining steps across the days between the starting date and the due date. See Scheduling steps to your Agenda.

Agenda — The day-by-day view of class meetings and due items, drawn from every Term, Course, Assignment, and Assessment. StudiFoca has no calendar view by design — see The Agenda view & why there’s no calendar.

Workload heat map — A Week, Month, or Full Term view shading each day by how much is due or scheduled, so a heavy stretch is visible at a glance instead of buried in a list.

Reminder level — StudiFoca’s own in-app notification setting: None, Low, Medium, High, or Extreme, each stacking on the one below it. Medium is the default. See Reminders & notification levels.

iCloud alert level — A separate setting controlling whether Apple’s own Calendar and Reminders apps send their own alerts for items StudiFoca has synced into them. Runs independently of the Reminder level.

Full Load — The one in-app purchase: a one-time unlock (no subscription) that removes the free tier’s one-term, two-course ceiling. See Full Load for pricing.

Free tier — StudiFoca’s default, fully functional state: one Term at a time, up to two Courses, with every feature otherwise identical to Full Load. See The free tier—what you get.
